Tom Peterson has practiced law in the areas of real estate, commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution since 1986. Mr. Peterson has served as the mediator in over one hundred cases, approximately 80 percent of which settled during the mediation session, and has been an advocate for a party in several hundred more mediations. He has extensive experience advising parties in real estate transactions and drafting of real estate documents. He has represented national and regional lenders in loan documentation review, foreclosures, lien priority disputes, and as a trustee. He also represented borrowers in secured lending transactions, foreclosures and loan disputes; landlords and tenants in commercial leasing transactions; and buyers and sellers of real estate. He has successfully tried jury and nonjury trials in federal and state courts, briefed and argued many appeals, and resolved numerous real property and commercial disputes through summary judgment, arbitration, and mediation procedures. Tom began working as a professional mediator in 2002. He is a founding member of Socius Law Group and served as managing partner for the first seven years of its existence. He is rated AV, the highest rating for legal skill and ethics, by Martindale-Hubble, and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine every year since 2002. Prior to private practice, Mr. Peterson served as a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas Tang, Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and was a legal intern for the U.S. Attorney in Seattle. Mr. Peterson earned his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and his law degree from the University of Oregon, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as an editor of the Oregon Law Review.
