MICHAEL C. WALTER is a partner at Keating, Bucklin & McCormack, Inc., P.S., a Seattle law firm emphasizing defense of local and state government in a variety of legal claims. Mr. Walter focuses his practice on a broad range of land use, regulatory, environmental, civil rights and tort-related claims and issues in defense of towns, cities, counties and other government entities. He has over 23 years of litigation experience before quasi-judicial tribunals, administrative agencies, state and federal trial courts and state and federal appellate courts, and has argued dozens of appeals. Mr. Walter has written numerous articles on municipal, land use and civil rights issues and government risk management, and is a frequent speaker at conferences on topics ranging from general municipal and government law, land use, civil rights liability to quasi-judicial decision-making, parks and recreation liability and general risk management for government officials. He also provides training to elected officials and government employees. Mr. Walter received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Washington in 1980 and his Juris Doctor degree from Seattle University Law School in 1983. He is licensed to practice before all Washington State courts, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court, Western and Eastern Districts of Washington. He is a member of the Seattle-King County, Washington State and American Bar Associations, as well as a variety of state and national municipal and land use-related organizations. Mr. Walter has an “AV” rating and has been profiled in Who’s Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders, and Who’s Who in the West. He was named a Washington “Super Lawyer” in 2004 and 2006 – 2011, and has been rated “preeminent” (highest rating) by the national Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review.
