Lee Smith is an Attorney at Law licensed in the State of Texas. Lee Smith is a graduate of Harvard University (1969) and the University of Washington School of Law (1974). Lee Smith was Associate Vice President for Legal Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin until 2017, where he dealt with the wide array of legal issues that affect the students, faculty and staff and provided counsel to the Vice President for Legal Affairs, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Vice President for Administration. Prior to coming to The University of Texas at Austin campus in 1991, Lee Smith was an attorney with The University of Texas System Office of General Counsel (1983-1989), Counsel to the Director of the Washington State Department of Wildlife ( 1989-1991 ); and, Chief Regional Civil Rights Attorney for The United States Department of Health and Human Services (1978-1983). Lee Smith has a wide variety of experience dealing with telecommunications, information technology and information security related issues in the higher education space and is an active member in a number of higher education professional associations including NACUA, NACUBO and Educause
