- I believe mediation is the road to peace. I have dedicated my life to this end. I first served twelve years in the military as a nurse, where I helped soldiers heal, and settle disputes between themselves and commanding officers when they returned from war. I mediated hospital disputes between doctors, patients, and staff. Then I performed the same functions later as a civilian nursing supervisor in the emergency room and obstetrics. As an attorney, I have mediated church disputes, school board disputes, family disputes, real property disputes, and criminal law disputes.
Having a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Pacific Lutheran University, and a Law Degree from Seattle University and practicing in both areas (nursing and law) has given me insight and understanding of people at their best and at their worst. It has taught me to view conflict from all sides with empathy, knowledge, and understanding, not only of the parties but the underlying issues and interests that brought them to this point.
Training through Pepperdine University, Alhadeff and Forbes, and University of Washington has given me additional insight into the process of mediation. Hobbies of reading, boating, skiing, and showing wire fox terriers help keep me focused. Finally, being married for 26 years and having two wonderful daughters one in college, the other in graduate school fills me with love and peace.
