- Joyce Lynn Elder, JD, is a former Washington State attorney, who has experienced the courtroom from the perspective of the lower bench, witness, advocate, attorney, and member of jury pools. She has extensive training and experience in mediation and facilitation, and has seen firsthand how subtle communication gaps create huge conflicts and misunderstandings, some of which lead to legal action. And, with her training and certification in advanced communication and training techniques, she can identify, explain, and help to resolve or prevent such conflicts and disputes. In fact, she has been requested and selected to present at regional professional conferences for attorneys, mediators, association managers, and property managers on topics such as building rapport, building agreement, and collaborative negotiations.
Her Juris Doctorate from Western New England College School of Law is supported by formal coursework that includes a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Social Sciences and Psychology from University of Massachusetts - Lowell, a Certificate in Supervision from Green River Community College, and graduate coursework in Public Policy Formation and Implementation from Seattle University. A dedicated student of communication, she has also completed a variety of programs and earned certifications from other providers in advanced communication, coaching, consulting, training, and legislative advocacy.
All that training appears to have paid off. A former association manager and Court-Appointed Special Advocate, Joyce is acclaimed for her unprecedented ability to de-escalate high emotions of individuals and groups and build agreement among strongly opposed parties, even when the stakes were high. She was also credited with the retention of some clients with high demands and needs, some of whom had given notice of termination prior to working with Joyce.
Today, Joyce is the Managing Owner and Lead Trainer and Consultant for Emerald Empowerment LLC, a client relations and employee/staff relations consulting and training firm.

Thanks Joyce. Are you our chair? Not much happens on this committee in between sessions. But now that another legislative session is looming, I do think there are some things we should be doing.
Your page can be found by the public searching among all the other Members - it is already the best ADR directory in Washington.
