Bio
I’ve been mediating since 2003 and I’m a Washington Mediation Association Certified Mediator. I’ve served on two courts’ mediator panels (San Diego and Los Angeles Superior Courts), two private panels (American Arbitration Association and Savannah Mediation Center) as a Georgia Certified Mediator.

I’ve mediated and litigated cases of many kinds, including business disputes, family law and custody (collaborative divorce and peaceful divorce options), environmental and toxic tort, insurance coverage and bad faith, intellectual property, personal injury, construction, products liability, employment, and government-entity cases. I have a deep background in many areas of the law, both substantive and procedural.

I’ve litigated simple two-party cases and also enormous cases, like one case that was portrayed in the Erin Brockovich movie, involving $3.6 billion and 6,000 plaintiffs.

I’ve represented government entities, insurers, big businesses—and on behalf of clients, have sued such entities too. I know the enormous costs of litigation—and the uncertainties. People and their businesses generally want litigation to end, and end right away—it’s a huge distraction, expensive, and unpleasant for everybody.

I have mediation experience in a broad range of cases—check out my website for more info: https://dougsimpsonmediation.com.

I have mediated many highly contentious and complex cases, and cases with high-conflict personalities. I work through distractions to find the real issues of importance to the parties, and find a path forward.

Resolving a conflict can be done without a courtroom. At a minimum expense. And with a maximum amount of predictability and control.

As an attorney for over 30 years, I’ve represented clients in court—watching as they were forced to spend months, or even years, and tons of money to resolve problems that I felt sure could be easily fixed outside of court.

Many times, I knew that it would only take a few hours to find a solution to a problem, if both parties could set aside their anger or fear and communicate effectively with each other.

So, in 2003, I decided to become a mediator, a guide who clears a path forward for people in conflict. I’m the go-between, the person who proposes outside-the-box, workable solutions that everyone can trust.

I listen to warring parties, both in business settings and family disputes, in order to find out what each side wants and why. Then I show them how to quickly create a solution to whatever problem has come between them.
