Oh, Courtland, I thought when you became Treasurer you left the chair of he legislative committee. Glad to know you're still sitting! Well, there hasn't been anything to address, until now. I don't know if there are any other matters that might be looming, but I do think it's time to Act on the UCLA. How about setting a meeting of the committee?
I am the chair of the committee.
The way things are supposed to go, the legislative liaison of the WSBA is supposed to provide myself (and the committee) briefings on issues that are of importance to the Section. The committee has been moribund for a while.
If anyone is more up to speed on what is going on in Olympia than I am (I admitedly rely on the WSBA to fill me in), they may be a more appropriate person to chair the committee.
Courtland
Who's our chair of this committee? David? Can we have a meeting? The Uniform Collaborative Law Act is now on the agenda of many ADR groups, as well as the WA ULC. I've had some communication with Dennis Cooper who is the member of the ULC to whom the UCLA has been assigned. I think that the legislative committee of the WSBA will be taking this up soon. It could do so upon our request. I think we should take a leading role in this. A threshold question that needs to be addressed is whether or not the provisions should be enacted by Statute or Rule. Maybe we could host some kind of forum on the subject. In any event it's an issue that this committee should address prior to the start of the next legislative session.
Welcome to our community of ADR professionals: mediators, arbitrators, and lawyers representing and advising clients. We are active in the growth and development of ADR in Washington as well as the education of members of the bar and the public.
