Sasha's tweet about her joyful avocation reminded me of another singing mediator, Simon Boehme of San Francisco. Earlier this year, he helped Janet (seated in photo) avert imminent eviction from her home of 7 years, after she got into a physical altercation with a new property manager. Janet is a calypso singer from Trinidad-Tobago who performed across Europe before trauma left her homeless in San Francisco. She is most comfortable expressing herself through songs that she composes. Through a series of small confidential conversations, Simon literally sang Janet into a zone of safety, where it became possible to negotiate rules that enabled her to keep her home. I can't think of a better example of integrating personal gifts with professional skills to fashion compassionate resolution of conflict.

Simon mediates for the Conflict Intervention Service, which seeks local stakeholders to bring its program to Seattle. If you are interested in this effort, please contact Alan Alhadeff or me. You can learn more about CIS here: http://www.sfbar.org/adr/cis.aspx.

Blessed are the peacemakers. Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone.
