As promised at our last membership event on January 21—the first meeting of the WSBA Colloquium on Mediation is set for Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at our regular membership meeting location—Impact Hub Seattle.
What it is: the Colloquium is a monthly series of small group discussions (8 to 15 participants) around the big topic of mediation for lawyers. Sub-topics include how to use mediation in a wide variety of settings; creating opportunities/how to break in as a mediator; learning circles and dialogue to enhance and reinforce lessons from training; current trends including the upcoming WSBA recommendation for using mediation early in litigation. As a special feature—we plan to have each meeting discussion also revolve around what the participants bring to the table via their questions, comments, and even requests they may make in advance. In this way our meetings will combine planning with a degree of spontaneity.
Who should attend: Newer lawyers and aspiring mediators are our target audience participants. Experienced lawyers and mediators interested in contributing to the discussion are also warmly invited to attend.
First meeting—Tuesday, Feb 17, 4:00-6:00pm, Impact Hub Seattle, 220 Second Ave S, Seattle 98104—will feature discussion introduced by Kathleen Royer and Alan Alhadeff about how lawyers can bring practical benefits to their clients by accessing mediation early in the litigation process.
Next step: If you wish to attend please sign up ASAP by emailing your intention to come. We have very limited space for the first meeting on Feb 17 and the first 12 to sign up get in for sure. We will be able to expand for subsequent monthly meetings. Therefore, please contact us if you remain interested in future meetings even if you are not able to attend the first one in February.
To RSVP: email firstname.lastname@example.org with your contact information and notice of your intention to attend.
